On January 1, 1938, the Japanese company Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho was founded and is the only Japanese company from our review besides Kenwood. Already at this time they have loudspeakers to produce. Only in 1961 the name was changed to Pioneer, which they have kept until today. After almost 30 years of producing loudspeakers, they expanded their product range to include car radios in 1963. Over the years the product fields have been expanded and downsized. Currently they are active in consumer electronics, car hi-fi, DJ products and PC drives.
The trend is more and more towards reducing costs through partnerships, as with Sharp. This partnership was there to reduce production costs. Also, entire departments were taken over from other companies, such as Panasonic, which took over the development and design of panels. Despite the many changes, Pioneer is able to maintain its position in the market with its products and is constantly developing new products and improving existing ones. The company currently employs 17,000 people, with the number changing every year due to economy measures and efficiency improvements. The sales markets are Europe, Asia and America, with Europe accounting for the smallest share. With a turnover of the equivalent of € 3.5 million, they are one of the largest companies in the market for electronic equipment. In the future, there will certainly be one or two new technologies and improvements that could revolutionize the industry.
What do we think of Pioneer Subwoofer?
In short: We are very satisfied with the performance! The trend is currently moving away from large, bulky boxes from the boot towards small and compact units with high performance. Pioneer subwoofers take advantage of this trend and are therefore in great demand. We can only agree with this opinion. The value for money is very good across the board. Durable products at an affordable price are always a good prerequisite and the sound is also very good. The only drawback in our eyes is that the small subwoofers can’t play as good bass as large passive subwoofers. This of course has something to do with the construction. The sound is unique and the bass is still not to be underestimated! The products are perfectly suitable for beginners as well as for advanced users.
