BL GT5-2402BR – Passive Bass Reflex Subwoofer Reviewed

By

The traditional American company JBL has been on the market for over 70 years and the slogan “Vorsprung durch Forschung” explains why the company has been able to exist for so long. In the meantime the system has been installed in over 500 Ferrari sports cars. In our review, the question arises as to whether or not the JBL GT5-2402BR was also able to benefit from research.

The JBL GT5-2402BR is partly sold out, so we recommend the JBL Car GT-BassPro 12

The design of the JBL GT5-2402BR is very pleasant to the eye. The choice of colors, black and silver, stands for a modern style, which is kept discreet and yet expresses pure power. And the aluminium front struts not only look good, but also protect the high-performance membranes from other objects in the boot. The design is therefore not only visually very attractive, but also offers great technical advantages. Due to its size, you are very limited in your choice of space and you have to accept the lost space in the boot. If this subwoofer model is too big for you, but you like the design very much, you can take a closer look at the review of its little brother JBL GT-BassPro 12.

Not only the design, but also the construction speaks for high quality and engineering. No expense or effort was spared in the processing. The material is of very high quality and the processing is simply successful. Nothing rattles, loosens or stands away. The flow lies firmly on all sides and should prevent slipping. Nevertheless, I would always use tension belts for fastening. A common weakness of bass reflex cabinets is that air turbulence, air congestion and imprecise bass are often the result. Which in turn can lead to noise and damage to the driver. This is why JBL uses slipstream technology. The result is no disturbing noise, precise bass and no damage to the chassis. With this technology, the subwoofer will not only survive your current car.

In terms of sound, the JBL GT5-2402BR can do more than just convince. Its sound is powerful and precise over the entire frequency range without overdriving. This leads to a perfect sound in the car. Besides the great sound, the subwoofer also plays a powerful bass. One of the few subwoofers in our review that can combine both sound and bass to create a unique sound experience in the car. If you manage to tune the front speakers correctly, you’ll never want to get out of the car again!

Technical information of the JBL GT5-2402BR

The JBL GT5-2402BR with its 550 Wrms is one of the powerful subwoofers in our review. Its peak power handling is even at 1,600 Wmax. This high power is paired with a sound pressure level of 90 dB. This, and the special feature of the progressive-action centering spiders, results in a beautiful sound. Furthermore, it has two polypropylene membranes with a diameter of 30 cm. Their frequency range is 40 – 200 Hz and has an impedance of 2 ohms. The membranes are protected by optically tuned aluminium front struts. Since it has a bass reflex cabinet it unfortunately takes up a lot of space in the boot, but those who don’t want to do without sound or bass will not find a better subwoofer. The exact dimensions are 89 x 32 x 40 cm. Here you will find a direct comparison of the two JBL subwoofers from our review.

So that the review winner can provide for an eargasm, he needs of course the suitable accessories. A good powercap, suitable power cables and a powerful power amplifier are mandatory. If you use the recommended accessories, you can get the full power by bridging the wiring at the power amplifier.
