Garmin DriveSmart 60 LMT-D EU – Navigation Device Reviewed

Five navigation devices were subjected to extensive reviewing. These are the five devices that are affordable for the average citizen and offer the best possible price-performance ratio. Five special categories were used as a basis for evaluation. The equipment, the handling, the route calculation as well as the destination guidance and last but not least the possibilities for map updates.

The review result of the DriveSmart 60 LMT-D EU presented here is quite impressive, as it is the best navigation device in all categories behind the review winner, the TomTom 6200, with a second place.

The equipment

The DriveSmart 60 LMT-D EU is particularly impressive when it comes to features. In our review, it is one of two devices that was awarded the full score in this category. The Garmin 51 LMT, on the other hand, had to take slight deductions in this category. Voice control and compatibility with smartphones make this model from Garmin a real all-rounder on the road. You can choose between a display size of 5 inches, 6 inches or even 7 inches, depending on your preference. This device also covers all of Europe with 46 countries. So from now on even trips abroad will be a real experience instead of pure stress.

The handling

In handling, the navigation device, like the Garmin DriveSmart 51 LMT already, must be able to insert light triggers. For a rating with the maximum, namely five out of five points, it was therefore unfortunately not quite enough. An absolute plus point in this area is the tilt function, which makes it possible to have a closer look at the street scene in landscape as well as in portrait format. Nevertheless, the device has some small defects in the holder. But these can be compensated by certain accessories.

The route calculation

One of the most important aspects when buying a navigation device is certainly the route calculation. Here this product is hard to beat. No long waiting times and exact calculations ensure a precision landing for an exact arrival time. The already very accurate calculations are favoured by the fact that this model allows you to take accidents and other short-term traffic changes into account, so that you don’t lose much time.

The target guidance

As with route calculation, the Garmin DriveSmart 60 is also the absolute top when it comes to destination guidance. A visually appealing presentation on the display allows even inexperienced drivers to quickly become friends with this device. Thus, wrong routes, late departure on the highway or unrecognizable paths become a taboo. Even the language of the navigation device can be pleasantly adjusted in volume and announces lane changes at an early stage to always stay on the right track. This model can hardly be beaten here.

One of the reasons why the DriveSmart 60 did not quite make it to the review winner is in the area of map updates. Although lifelong map updates are part of the scope of services at the time of purchase, the updates can still be significantly improved in some countries beyond Central Europe. Newer roads are sometimes missing from the current collection, so it takes some time to bring the navigation device up to the absolute lareview level. However, the general installation is easy to understand and can be done without much background knowledge. All in all, one can speak of an extremely good product for a good price.
