But first: What is a subwoofer set?
Manufacturers often use this bundling to make it easier for beginners to enter the world of car hi-fi. This is because the products must be compatible with each other and a set always contains all the products required. So it is not possible, for example, that the fuse in the power cable is missing or that the RCA cable is missing at all. Because with many active subwoofers this must be ordered separately. Advantages and disadvantages of a set
But as always every coin has two sides. Just as the set has the advantage that it is cheaper due to the bundling, it does not have to provide the optimal result. With a set, the products always come from one manufacturer. If you now decide to buy from online suppliers, you can either buy a used or a new subwoofer set. However, we do not advise you to buy used subwoofers because you do not have a warranty and you do not have the possibility to check the set for possible defects or functionality. With a new one these defects should not occur and if they do, you can always have it replaced without losing money.
There are some basic rules to follow when buying:
- Manufacturers often lure people with extremely high Wmax, which refers to the entire set and not to the individual components. So control the Wrms of the subwoofer
- If the subwoofer has more than 500 Wrms, you need a powercap. If this is not included, you have to order it separately
- Are all components included? (subwoofer, power amplifier and accessories)
- Is the cable dimension sufficient?
- Does the overall concept appeal to me?
